Introduction

KisoStats (基礎) is a lightweight system monitor for macOS that lives in your menu bar. Monitor your Mac's CPU, RAM, SSD, and network performance at a glance — without opening any windows.

Installation

Step 1: Download

Download the latest KisoStats DMG from kyototech.co.jp.

Step 2: Install

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg file
  2. Drag KisoStats to your Applications folder
  3. Eject the DMG

Step 3: Launch

  1. Open KisoStats from your Applications folder
  2. If prompted, click Open to confirm you trust the developer
  3. Grant any requested permissions when prompted

Tip

Enable auto-start so KisoStats launches automatically every time you log in. See the Settings section for details.

After launching, KisoStats appears in your macOS menu bar with a compact two-line display that updates every 2 seconds:

Symbol Meaning
Download speed (current network receive rate)
Upload speed (current network transmit rate)
CPUProcessor usage percentage

Click on the menu bar display to open the detail panel with full system statistics and the disk cleanup tool.

System Monitor

The Monitor tab in the detail panel shows comprehensive system statistics with visual indicators:

CPU

Current processor usage displayed as a percentage with a progress bar. Shows real-time load across all cores.

RAM

Memory usage in gigabytes with a percentage indicator. Shows how much of your total RAM is currently in use.

SSD

Storage usage with total capacity displayed. Shows used space as a percentage of your disk.

Network

Real-time download and upload speeds. Automatically scales between B/s, KB/s, MB/s, and GB/s.

Color Indicators

Each metric uses color coding for quick health assessment:

Disk Cleanup

The Cleanup tab helps you free up disk space by safely removing temporary and unnecessary files.

How to Clean Up

  1. Open the detail panel by clicking KisoStats in the menu bar
  2. Switch to the Cleanup tab
  3. Click the refresh button to scan for removable files
  4. Review each category and its estimated size
  5. Uncheck any categories you want to keep
  6. Click the trash button to clean the selected categories

Warning

Deleted files cannot be recovered. Review the categories carefully before cleaning. Categories showing 0 bytes are automatically disabled.

Settings

Auto-Start at Login

Click the power button icon in the panel header to toggle auto-start:

Language

KisoStats supports three languages:

  • English
  • German (Deutsch)
  • Japanese (日本語)

To change the language, click the globe icon in the panel header and select your preferred language. The change takes effect immediately — no restart required.

Note

The language setting persists across app restarts. KisoStats remembers your last selected language.

Privacy

KisoStats is designed with privacy as a core principle:

  • No data collection — KisoStats does not collect any personal or usage data
  • No analytics — No tracking, no telemetry, no crash reporting
  • No network requests — KisoStats never connects to the internet
  • Everything stays local — All system metrics are read and displayed locally on your Mac

The only permission KisoStats may request is Automation access to Finder, which is used exclusively for the "Empty Trash" cleanup feature. This permission is optional — all other features work without it.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

Issue Solution
KisoStats does not appear in the menu bar Check if KisoStats is running in Activity Monitor. Try quitting and restarting the app. Also check System Settings → Control Center → Menu Bar Only.
Cleanup does not free expected space Some system files may be in use and cannot be removed while active. Try restarting your Mac and running the cleanup again.
Permission errors during cleanup KisoStats needs Automation permission to empty the Trash. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation and ensure KisoStats has access to Finder.
CPU/RAM shows incorrect values System metrics update every 2 seconds. Wait a moment for accurate readings to stabilize.
Some cleanup categories are grayed out Categories with 0 bytes are automatically disabled. Click the refresh button to rescan.

Uninstalling KisoStats

To completely remove KisoStats from your Mac:

  1. Quit KisoStats (click the × button in the panel)
  2. Drag KisoStats from the Applications folder to the Trash
  3. Empty the Trash
